STREAMING NEWS

Eddie Murphy will star in the holiday comedy Candy Cane Lane, the first film in his three-picture deal with Amazon Prime Video. Plot details are being kept under wraps, and production will begin this winter in Los Angeles.


The Academy of Country Music Awards
will return to Amazon Prime Video for a second time, livestreaming the event from Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas Thursday, May 11, 2023. More details will be announced in the coming months.

Mo'Nique has finally settled her lawsuit against Netflix, in which she accused the streamer of systematically underpaying Black women, and will tape her first comedy special for the streamer. The source of the comedian's frustration was the $500,000 the streamer offered her for a special while making deals with the likes of Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock and Amy Schumer for 26 times more. She also alleged Netflix retaliated by shutting down any further negotiations with her for a special. With Netflix agreeing to a settlement, she is ready to go to work with details on the special to be revealed at a later date.


Roku has released a new still revealing Abbott Elementary's Quinta Brunson as Oprah Winfrey opposite Daniel Radcliffe as 'Weird Al' in the biopic Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, coming this Fall to the free streaming service. No premiere date has been announced.

TV NEWS

After concluding its third season on Monday, FX Network has announced a fourth season renewal for Breeders, starring Martin Freeman and Daisy Haggard. The show, which is available to stream on Hulu in the US and Sky One in the UK, will add more international viewers as it becomes available on Star+ in Latin America and Disney+ under the Star banner in other international territories.


Inventing Anna
's Alexis Floyd will be joining the 19th season of ABC's Grey's Anatomy as a series regular. Floyd will play Simone Griffin, a new first-year surgical resident at Grey Sloan. A funny, whip smart, high achiever with a complicated family dynamic. She grew up in Seattle, but never wanted to work at Grey Sloan because of a painful personal history with the hospital.

MOVIE NEWS

Marc Forster, who directed Disney's live-action Christopher Robin, will re-team with the studio for an adaptation of Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book. The 2008 novel was the recipient of the American Newberry Medal. The story centers on Nobody “Bod” Owen, a young boy who is raised by the ghosts and supernatural beings of a graveyard – including, the graveyard’s caretaker Silas – after his family is murdered.


Skydance Media and Mattel are revving up for a live-action movie based on the classic Matchbox toy vehicles. Other Mattel properties in the works include American Girl, Barney, Hot Wheels, Magic 8 Ball, Major Matt Mason, Masters of the Universe, Polly Pocket, Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots, Thomas & Friends, UNO, View-Master, Wishbone, the Christmas Balloon and, of course, Barbie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.

Michael Peña is set to star as real-life Mexican astronaut Jose Hernandez in A Million Miles Away for Amazon Studios. The project is based on the autobiography Reaching for the Stars.
