STREAMING NEWS

★Spotify and Warner Bros. next audio series Harley Quinn & The Joker: Sound Mind will feature the voices of Christina Ricci as HQ herself, Billy Magnussen as Joker and Justin Hartley as Batman. The series begins when Quinn is still known as Dr. Harleen Quinzel, a top psychologist at Arkham Asylum who is determined to help the patients her colleagues have given up on.

★HBO Max docu-reality series House of Ho will return for a second season with three episodes August 25. Three more episodes will follow on September 1, with the final four episodes of the season debuting September 8.

★Kurt and Wyatt Russell are coming to the Monsterverse as they join the untitled Apple TV+ Godzilla and the Titans series. The join the previously announced Anna Sawai, Ren Watabe, Kiersey Clemons, Joe Tippett and Elisa Lasowski. Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking new reality that monsters are real, the untitled series will explore one family's journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch.

 

★Shout! Factory will release the documentary Mister Candid Camera to digital platforms including Apple TV on August 2. The film tells the story of TV pioneer Allen Funt, the grandfather of reality television with his Candid Camera series. The story of how Funt made one of entertainment’s most enduring hits, and essentially invented a television genre, is told in the documentary. Carol Burnett, Howie Mandel, and Fannie Flagg are among the stars who testify to the genius of Funt’s creation, offering “insight into the methods and machinations of the legendary television pioneer.” Shout! Factory has also obtained the digital broadcast rights in the US and Canada to the Candid Camera episodic library.


TV NEWS

★William Stanford Davis, who plays eccentric custodian Mr. Johnson on Abbott Elementary, has been upped to a series regular for the second season. It's the first series regular role in Davis' 27 year career.

★Oscar winner H.E.R. has been cast as Belle in ABC's live-action-animated hybrid special Beauty and the Beast: A 30th Celebration. The casting marks the first time an Afro Filipina woman will play the role of Belle on screen. The special will air December 15 and will be available on Disney+ the next day.

★Mena Suvari and Greyston Holt will star in Lifetime's ripped from the headlines thriller House of Chains, whichi will debut this Fall. The film is inspired by the disturbing true story of a troubled married couple who imprisoned their six children within their home due to an intense religious ideology.

★The South Park 25th Anniversary Concert that will be held at Red Rocks in Colorado August 9-10 will be taped and broadcast on Comedy Central August 13, streaming next day on Paramount+. The concert will feature the show's creators Matt Parker and Trey Stone, as well as performances from Primus and Ween.

★Jonathan Knight will return to HGTV with a new season of Farmhouse Fixer, Wednesday, August 24 at 9:00 PM. The new episodes will follow Jonathan, best known as a member of the Grammy-nominated band New Kids on the Block, and designer Kristina Crestin, as they renovate old properties into exquisite modern homes, all while keeping the original charm.

MOVIE NEWS

★New Line Cinema is heading back in to battle as the studio greenlights a sequel to Mortal Kombat, with the first film's director Simon McQuoid back at the helm.

★Art house hit Everything Everywhere All At Once will return to theaters July 29 with a new introduction from the filmmakers and eight minutes of previously unseen footage.

 

IN MEMORIAM

★Actress Rebecca Balding has died at 73 following a battle with ovarian cancer. Balding is probably best known for her roles on the first two seasons of Soap and on the original Charmed. Other TV credits include her first credited appearance on The Bionic Woman, The Tony Randall Show, Lou Grant, Barnaby Jones, The Rockford Files, Starsky & Hutch, Supertrain, Makin' It (a sitcom inspired by Saturday Night Fever), Cagney & Lacey, Hotel, Gimme a Break!, Family Ties, Matt Houston, Trapper John, M.D., The Fall Guy, Our House, MacGyver, Paradise, Designing Women, Home Improvement, 7th Heaven, Beverly Hills, 90210, Melrose Place, ER and Love Boat: The Next Wave. She appeared in several TV movies and mini-series including Deadly Game, The Gathering, The French Atlantic Affair, The Gathering Part II, and Mr. and Mrs. and Mr. Balding is also known among horror fans as an early 'Scream Queen' with roles in Silent Scream and The Boogens. She also had roles in Kiss My Grits and Yesterday's Dreams.
