COMIC-CON NEWS

★The previously announced The Walking Dead movies centered around Andrew Lincoln's Rick Grimes are no longer happening. However, the movies have morphed into a six-episode mini-series featuring Rick and Danai Gurira's Michonne. The limited series is expected to premiere next year.

★AMC revealed the first of the final eight episodes of its flagship series The Walking Dead will debut October 2.

★Marvel made a surprise announcement during its panel touting the upcoming second season of What If...? that the series has officially been picked up for a third season. Season 2 will debut in early 2023. The memorable Season 1 Zombies episode also led to a spin-off series of its own which will feature zombified versions of the popular Marvel superheroes. And Spider-Man: Freshman Year, coming in 2024, will follow the early days of Peter Parker learning to become the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

★Marvel's X-Men '97 will come to Disney+ in the Fall of 2023, continuing the storyline of the original X-Men: The Animated Series that aired from 1992-1997.

★The upcoming Disney+ Star Wars series The Acolyte has cast Amandla Stenberg in the lead role. The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.

★HBO Max revealed original Gremlins star Zach Galligan will lend his voice to the upcoming animated series Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai in a recurring role. The voice cast also includes Sandra Oh, Randall Park, George Takei and Bowen Yang. Park sent a special video message to the Con attendees.

★Apple TV+ has announced a fourth season renewal for its alt-history space race series For All Mankind. The third season is currently streaming.

★Paramount+ released a first look video for the new animated series Transformers: Earthspark, which will feature the voices of Danny Pudi, Alan Tudyk, Kathreen Khavari, Zeno Anderson, Sydney Mikayla, Zion Broadnax, Benny Latham, Jon Jon Briones, Rory McCann, Cissy Jones and Diedrich Bader.

STREAMING NEWS

★Billy Magnussen will headline Netflix's Spy Kids reboot, joining Gina Rodriguez, Zachary Levi, Everly Carganilla, and Connor Esterson. The film is set after the children of the world’s greatest secret agents unwittingly help a powerful game developer unleash a computer virus that gives him control of all technology, leading them to become spies themselves to save their parents and the world. Spy Kids creator Robert Rodriguez will write, direct and produce the film.
