STREAMING NEWS

★Following the streaming success of The Grey Man, Netflix is preparing to create an entire universe with the film at its center. Star Ryan Gosling and directors Joe and Anthony Russo are on board for a sequel, and a spin-off film is also in the planning stages.


★Peacock has given a straight-to-series order to gladiator drama Those About To Die, with Independence Day director Roland Emmerich set to helm. The project is based on the book of the same title by Daniel Mannix, described as “a large-scale drama set within the spectacular, complex and corrupt world of gladiatorial sports in Ancient Rome. The series introduces an ensemble of diverse characters across the many layers of Roman society where sports, politics and business intersect and collide.”

TV NEWS


★Benjamin Levy Aguilar, who recurred on Season 9 of Chicago P.D. as Dante Torres, has been promoted to a series regular for the show's tenth season, which will premiere September 21 at 10:00 PM on NBC.

★HBO has ordered the limited series The Palace, starring and executive produced by Kate Winslet. The series  tells the story of one year within the walls of the palace of an authoritarian regime as it begins to unravel.

MOVIE NEWS

★Shang-Chi: The Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton has been selected to helm Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which will be the first of two Avengers films to complete the Multiverse Saga.


★Minions: The Rise of Gru has become the first animated film of the COVID era to cross the $300 million mark at the domestic box office. It is also the third Universal animated film to reach $300 mil within four weeks domestically.
