★Jo Koy returns to Netflix with his fourth comedy special Live from the Los Angeles Forum, premiering globally September 13.
★Sarah Michelle Gellar returns to television as the star and executive producer of Paramount+ Teen Wolf spin-off series Wolf Pack. Gellar stars as arson Investigator Kristin Ramsey, a highly regarded expert in her field and no stranger to personal loss, brought in by authorities to catch the teenage arsonist who started a massive wildfire which may have also led to the reawakening of a supernatural predator terrorizing Los Angeles.
★Disney+ revealed at the first day of Comic-Con that Harvey Keitel will reprise the role of FBI agent Peter Sadusky in the TV series continuation of the National Treasure film franchise. A teaser was also released giving a first look at Lisette Olivera as Jess, the show's lead.
TV NEWS
★The Try Guys come to Food Network as they face off in kitchens around the country with no recipes, no culinary training and 100% commitment in No-Recipe Road Trip with the Try Guys, premiering Wednesday, August 31 at 10:00 PM, and streaming on Discovery+.
★ABC's Abbott Elementary, which debuted as a mid-season series, was previously renewed for a second season but it's been revealed that ABC has given the series an unheard of full 22-episode Season 2 order. Networks generally renew mid-season shows with a 13-episode order and if the show performs well, the 'Back 9' will be ordered. With the show's growing fan base and historic Emmy nominations -- Quinta Brunson earned three, a new record for a Black woman in the comedy category -- ABC always planned to give the show a full season order, and things are said to have been finalized in June.
★Former American Pickers co-star Frank Fritz has been hospitalized following a stroke. The news was broken by his former partner Mike Wolfe on Instagram Thursday.
IN MEMORIAM
★Emmy-nominated actor Taurean Blacque has died at 82 following a brief illness. Blacque was nominated for his role as Detective Neal Washington on NBC's police drama Hill Street Blues. He began his career at New York's Negro Ensemble Company and landed roles on TV series including What's Happening!!, Sanford and Son, Wonderbug, Charlie's Angels, The Bob Newhart Show, Good Times, Taxi, The White Shadow, and The Love Boat before joining Hill Street Blues. Following his run on that series he made appearances in Growing Pains, Gabriel's Fire, True Colors, In the Heat of the Night, Dream On and Kevin (Probably) Saves the World. He also had regular roles on the soap Generations and The WB's Aaron Spelling drama Savannah. Blacque also appeared in several TV movies including Frankie & Annette: The Second Time Around, The $5.20 an Hour Dream, Alex and the Doberman Gang, The Night the City Screamed, She Stood Alone, and Murder Without Motive: The Edmund Perry Story. Movie credits include House Calls, Rocky II, The Hunter, Disney's animated Oliver & Company, DeepStar Six, Fled, and Step Off.
★Shonka Dukureh, who just made her film debut in Baz Luhrmann's Elvis, was found dead in her Nashville apartment at the age of 44. A cause of death has yet to be determined. Dukureh played Big Mama Thornton in the film. Thornton was the first person to record the song 'Hound Dog'.
