★Peacock has announced the casting for the latest edition of Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem, which will premiere July 11. Returning are Eileen Davidson as Kristen DiMera and Christopher Sean as Paul Narita. DOOL newcomers will include Loretta Devine as Angela, Vince Van Patten as Phil Hellworth, Tanner Stine as Joey Johnson, Abigail Klein as Stephanie Johnson, Colton Little as Andrew Donovan and Victoria Grace as Wendy Shin. The previously announced cast includes Kristian Alfonso as Hope Williams Brady, Peter Reckell as Bo Brady, Deidre Hall as Dr. Marlena Evans, Drake Hogestyn as John Black, Steve Burton as Harris Michaels, Stephen Nichols as Steve "Patch" Johnson, Mary Beth Evans as Kayla Brady Johnson, Lucas Adams as Tripp Johnson, Camila Banus as Gabi Hernandez, Victoria Konefal as Ciara Brady, Robert Scott Wilson as Ben Weston and Remington Hoffman as Li Shin.

★Amazon Prime Video series The Outlaws returns for a second season on August 5. The comedy thriller is about a disparate group of lawbreakers thrown together to complete a community service sentence.

★Netflix has renewed baking competition Is It Cake? for a second season. Mikey Day will return as host.

★Mayans M.C. alum Richard Cabral will join Peacock's Twisted Metal as Loud, the over-protective brother of Quiet, played by Stephanie Beatriz.

★Disney+ will be submitting MCU series Hawkeye to the Emmys in the Comedy Series category instead of the expected Limited Series category, which may indicate they are planning on a second season.

★Freaky filmmaker Christopher Landon will write and direct an Arachnophobia remake for Amblin Partners.

★Top Gun: Maverick will cross the $200 million mark at the domestic box office today, surpassing the $195 million of Tom Cruise's 2015 hit Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation.

★The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall made a special appearance on BBC soap EastEnders Thursday evening. As the regular characters celebrated Her Majesty The Queen's Platinum Jubilee, Charles and Camilla arrived at the Queen Vic pub, stepping out of their car and introduced to the surprised guests by the pub owners Mick and Linda. The royal couple joined the other characters in a toast to mark the Jubilee. The Queen herself had previously visited the show in 2001.

★MTV has greenlit a documentary series that unpacks more than two decades of its blockbuster franchise The Challenge. The Challenge: Untold History is set to feature 30+ legendary competitors and a slew of famous fans including Kim Kardashian, Vernon Davis, Lindsey Jacobellis and more to premiere later this summer.

★The Weather Channel's Deep Water Salvage returns for a second season Sunday, June 5. It will be joined by two new series, The Earth Unlocked, which answers the most puzzling questions about the planet, and Lords of the Ocean, which takes a look at the exciting world of professional diving.

★HBO has renewed A Black Lady Sketch Show for a fourth season.

STAGE NEWS

★A musical stage adaptation of Cameron Crowe's Almost Famous will be hitting Broadway this Fall in a venue yet to be determined. Previews will begin September 13 with an official opening night set of October 11. Had it not been for the pandemic, the show almost certainly would have debuted a year or two earlier as a pre-Broadway engagement at San Francisco's Old Globe Theatre in 2019 received wide critical acclaim. Most of the cast from the San Diego run will reprise their roles on Broadway. A cast album will also be released in the Fall. A video of the cast in casual hang-out mode performing 'Everybody's Coming Together' has also been released.

IN MEMORIAM


★Actor, rodeo star and Marlboro Man Brad Johnson died February 18 of complications from COVID-19 in Fort Worth, Texas. He was 62. Johnson was discovered in 1984 on the rodeo circuit and booked ads for Marlboro and Calvin Klein before appearing on a 1986 episode of Dallas. He then appeared in Roger Corman's Nam Angels in 1989 before his prominent role in Steven Spielberg's 1989 drama Always, with Holly Hunter, Richard Dreyfuss, John Goodman and Audrey Hepburn. Johnson's other film credits include Flight of the Intruder, Philadelphia Experiment II, Dominion, Lone Justice 2 and three Left Behind movies. He appeared in several TV movies including Sisters, An American Story, The Birds II: Land's End, Riverworld, Alaska, The Robinsons: Lost in Space, Alien Siege and Copperhead. Johnson starred in the short-lived TV series Ned Blessing: The Story of My Life and Times, which spawned the films Lone Justice 2 and Lone Justice: Showdown at Plum Creek. Johnson was a series regular on 1995's Courthouse, the 1997-1999 series Soldier of Fortune, Inc., and had a notable guest run on Melrose Place in 1996. Other TV credits include A Different World, Veronica's Closet, The Outer Limits, Mysterious Ways, Home and Away, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Comanche Moon. Johnson had been cast in the film Treasure Valley in 2021 but none of his scenes were filmed following the sudden death of actor-writer Jay Pickett at 60. Johnson is survived by his wife of 35 years, Laurie, and their eight children.
