HOTCHKA Daily News - June 23, 2022

★Netflix has renewed Selling Sunset for two more seasons, 6 and 7, with production to begin this summer. Adding to their real estate portfolio, the streamer also has on tap the third season of Dream Home Makeover on July 27, Instant Dream Home premiering August 10, Selling the OC on August 24 and Buying Beverly Hills and Buy My House premiering this Fall. Netflix has also released a trailer for new series How To Build a Sex Room which premieres July 8.

★Robin Thede, creator of HBO's A Black Lady Sketch Show (which was recently renewed for a fourth season), has signed a new three year deal with Warner Bros. Discovery to create content exclusively for HBO, HBO Max and Warner Bros. Television.

★With Riverdale ending next year after its seventh season, The CW is looking at another property set in the Archie Comics world, Jake Chang. Chang is a new character in the Archie universe who will make his comics debut July 27 in the Betty & Veronica story 'Mystery of the Missing Mermaid'. The TV series Jake Chang is an Asian-American–led mystery following a 16-year-old private investigator as he navigates the racially and socioeconomically diverse worlds of his ever-gentrifying home of Chinatown, and the elite private high school he attends. The show will blend soapy teen drama with the neon noir aesthetic, all while flipping nearly every Asian stereotype — honor, martial arts, destiny, lineage, parental sacrifice — on its head. Daniel Dae Kim's 3AD, Archie Studios and Warner Bros. Television will produce the series.

★Ovation TV will air the first two seasons of Australian mystery series The Doctor Blake Mysteries, starring favorite Craig McLachlan as the maverick town doctor Lucien Blake, an impulsive risk-taker who's not afraid to upset the status quo. The Doctor Blake Mysteries will begin airing on Ovation TV on Thursday, July 7 at 8am ET. With four episodes airing back-to-back every Thursday, season two will then begin airing on Thursday, July 21 at 11am ET.

★Retta hits the road again in HGTV's Ugliest House in America: Ugly in Paradise premiering Sunday, July 24, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on HGTV and also available to stream on discovery+. Things can get ugly, even in paradise  during the new five-episode season. Retta will take a road trip to five stunning destinations to visit 15 unsightly homes nominated by their owners and share her hilarious reviews of the astonishingly bad designs, cringe-worthy layouts and severely outdated styles. Based on its ugly appearance, poor functionality and hideous design choices, one house will be crowned the "ugliest house in America" by HGTV, and the network will award its owners a showstopping $150,000 renovation completed by Alison Victoria, one of its top stars, during a special one-hour finale episode.

★Henry Czerny, from the Mission: Impossible franchise, will be joining the cast of the next Scream film with Dermot Mulroney, Jack Champion, Liana Liberato, Devyn Nekoda, Josh Segarra and Hayden Panettiere.

★The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell is said to be close to signing a deal with Universal Pictures to direct The Green Hornet and Kato. Once the deal is final the project will be fast-tracked to the pre-production stage. David Koepp had delivered a screenplay earlier this year.

★Dennis Quaid, Isabelle Fuhrman, David Thewlis, Josh Hutcherson and Kiera Allen will star in the sci-fi mystery Littlemouth, which has entered production in the Cayman Islands. Jonathan Sobol (The Padre) wrote the script and is directing. The story follows a brilliant computer scientist (Fuhrman) who is recruited by a charismatic tech billionaire (Quaid) to work on a secret project that might just change humanity’s place in the universe forever, though it comes at great risk.
