TV NEWS

★Andie MacDowell is set to star in a new Hallmark Channel series, The Way Home, which will premiere on the network in 2023. It's the first new series Hallmark has ordered since 2016. MacDowell plays Del Landry, matriarch of the Landry family and a pillar of the close-knit community of her small, Canadian farm town.


★Mishael Morgan made television history at Friday's Daytime Emmy Awards by becoming the first Black woman to win in the Outstanding Lead Actress category for her role of Amanda Sinclair on The Young and the Restless. General Hospital won Outstanding Daytime Drama, and John McCook won for Outstanding Lead Actor for The Bold and the Beautiful, while the writers of Days Of Our Lives won for Outstanding Writing Team. Steve Harvey won Outstanding Game Show Host for Family Feud, and Jeopardy! won Outstanding Game Show. Kelly Clarkson and her show won Emmys for Entertainment Talk Show Host and Entertainment Talk Show, while Tamron Hall won for Informative Talk Show Host, and Turning the Tables with Robin Roberts won for Informative Talk Show. In all, The Kelly Clarkson Show dominated the awards with seven wins, followed by General Hospital with five.

★The Olympics Committee is considering adding the signature Ninja Warrior obstacle course to the competition as the fifth discipline of the Modern Pentathlon for the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympics, replacing the equestrian show jumping discipline.

★Russell Crowe is set to star in horror film The Pope's Exorcist from Overlord director Julius Avery. Crowe will portray real-life figure Father Gabriele Amorth, a priest who acted as chief exorcist of the Vatican and who performed more than 100,000 exorcisms in his lifetime. Production is scheduled to begin in Ireland in September.

IN MEMORIAM


★Character actress Mary Mara has died at the age of 61 from an apparent accidental drowning while vacationing with her family in Cape Vincent, NY. Her body was recovered from the St. Lawrence River Sunday morning. Mara made her acting debut in the 1989 TV movie The Preppie Murder and appeared in several more TV movies including Empire City (1992), Indictment: The McMartin Trial (1995), In the Blink of an Eye (1996), What Kind of Mother Are You? (1996), Switched at Birth (1999), Stranger Inside (2001), Saint Sinner (2002), Pizza Time (2006), and Claire (2007). TV series credits include Hope & Gloria, ER, Nash Bridges, NYPD Blue, Ally McBeal, Farscape, Good vs Evil, Law & Order, Profiler, Poker Night, That's Life, The Practice, Gideon's Crossing, Judging Amy, The Huntress, Becker, The West Wing, Third Watch, Boston Public, Crossing Jordan, The Handler, Star Trek: Enterprise, North Shore, Without a Trace, 7th Heaven, Joan of Arcadia, Monk, Law & Order: SVU, Nip/Tuck, Bones, Lost, Lie to Me, Dexter, Shameless, Ray Donovan, Criminal Minds and Doubt.
